New Sign On U.S. 33 West Of Harrisonburg At Foot Of
Shenandoah Mountain.
A new sign has recently been erected on U.S. Route 33 at the foot of the
Shenandoah Mountain. It is a symbol
of a Motorcycle with the phrase "USE CAUTION".
In the past 20 years, Clover Hill Fire & Rescue have responded to
more than 100 motorcycle crashes in the area of the 2nd and 3rd
turn from the bottom of the mountain. We
brought this to the attention of State Senator Emmett Hanger and he contacted
the Virginia Department of Transportation.
A meeting was held with representatives of Clover Hill Fire & Rescue
and VDOT's Rockingham County Resident Engineer Don Komara.
Mr. Komara listened to our concerns and promised to study the situation.
VDOT decided to have a special sign made for this location after a study
was conducted. We would
like to thank Senator Hanger and Engineer Komara for their work on this project.
We can only hope that this will help eliminate some of the motorcycle
crashes at this location.
Over the past 20 years, Clover Hill Fire & Rescue experienced reactive
involvement with these crashes. This is a chance for our organization to be involved as
proactive in trying to decrease the number of motorcycle crashes that have taken
place near the foot of the Mountain on U.S. Route 33 West of Harrisonburg.
We are pleased this effort will make our community more safe.
